Electrochemical exfoliation of graphite to bring down manufacturing costs of graphene

Graphene has some remarkable properties that are now starting to transform many technologies and products.

Interest in this amazing material is huge – but industrial uptake has been held back by high graphene manufacturing costs.

The University of Manchester, the home of graphene, had developed an exfoliation technique for bulk, cost-effective manufacture of graphene and wanted a quick, high-impact way of demonstrating how the technology worked.

Graphene has some remarkable properties that are now starting to transform many technologies and products.

The University of Manchester, the home of graphene, had developed an exfoliation technique for bulk, cost-effective manufacture of graphene and wanted a quick, high-impact way of demonstrating how the technology worked.

HTP were asked to develop a 3D animation sequence that would bring alive the new manufacturing process in a way that wasn’t proving possible with CAD drawings and diagrams.

The result – a short sequence that clearly demonstrates the technique in action. Whilst the sequence is technically correct, what it shows uses graphic license to make the different production stages simple and memorable.
